Women & Youth in the Recycling Economy — Inclusive Growth Through Glass

Empowering Communities Through Recycling

In most of East Africa, waste picking is informal, unsafe, and underpaid. Yet it’s also a lifeline for thousands of families.

Bottle Logistics is transforming this reality — formalizing glass waste collection and ensuring decent, dignified work, especially for women and youth.

Breaking the Cycle of Informality

Traditionally, women collectors worked under poor conditions at dumpsites. Through our model, we organize collection through structured networks, provide protective gear, fair pricing, and digital tracking for transparency.

We aim for at least 60% of jobs in our value chain to be filled by women. This includes bottle collection, sorting, washing operations, and administration.

Why Inclusion Matters

Women bring precision and reliability to sorting and cleaning operations, while youth bring energy and digital skills.

Beyond employment, we invest in capacity building:

  • Training in financial literacy and digital tools
  • Leadership and safety awareness
  • Entrepreneurship support for independent collectors

The Ripple Effect

Each job created goes beyond income — it strengthens households, improves education, and boosts community resilience.

As we expand across Kenya and East Africa, we envision a generation of green entrepreneurs leading the recycling sector with pride.
